Welcoming NCoC to the Alliance

The Bridge Alliance is thrilled to welcome the National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC) as the newest member of the Alliance. The NCoC was founded in 1946 with the goal of harnessing the patriotic energy and civic involvement that surrounded World War II. In 1953, Congress recognized the importance of the NCoC’s mission and incorporated it under a federal charter, making it one of less than 100 federally chartered non-profits in existence today.
More recently, in 2006, the NCoC created the “Civic Health Index (CHI),” which analyzes a
variety of indicators -- such as volunteering, talking with neighbors, eating with household members, voting in local elections, confidence in public institutions, and group membership -- to measure communities’ civic health. The NCoC has used the CHI for the last decade-plus to document the state of civic life in American cities and states. Additionally, through CHI partnerships, the NCoC has partnered with local leaders to enhance civic life in various communities.
We are honored to have the NCoC in the Bridge Alliance and look forward to supporting their work -- and the work of all our members -- in 2018.
