The Democracy Awards go to…

As we approach the midterm elections, it is easy to get caught up in the raw partisanship that has engulfed D.C. We start seeing individual contests as a race between a vote for your party’s agenda and a vote against your party’s agenda. Members of Congress, however, have a myriad of important duties beyond just casting a vote -- they are OUR representatives.
The Democracy Awards, presented by the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) and the Bridge Alliance as a founding partner, celebrate Members who excel at these less visible -- but absolutely vital -- duties of office. While these individuals may be best known for their vote on Legislation X or Nominee Y, we believe they deserve praise for the work described below:
- Rep. Seth Moulton (MA-06) - His website shows the waiting time for answers to constituents’ policy questions (Category: Transparency and Accountability)
- Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) - Her office encourages others to use modern technology -- like social media -- to engage constituents (Category: Innovation)
- Senator John Boozman (AR) - His staff has trained 400 people to collect veterans’ stories for the Veterans History Project (Category: Constituent Service)
- Rep. Susan Davis (CA-53) - Her office has two staff shifts so the office can stay open longer and allow employees balanced schedules (Category: Workplace Environment)
These representatives and six of their colleagues will be honored this Friday at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. If you want to read more about their great work, please click here and check out the accomplishments of all of our Democracy Award recipients.
Also, we wanted to let you know that Steven Olikara of the Millennial Action Project, Kathryn Peters of Democracy Works, and our own David Nevins will be featured on PBS’ Open Mind over the next three weeks. You can catch Steven’s interview by clicking here. We will let you know when the other episodes come out.
As always, thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Bridge Alliance
