In case you didn’t know, there are a few important elections coming up next year. The results of those elections will go a long way toward determining your representatives for the next ten years. In other words, it’s critical that you have the opportunity to cast your vote and that your vote matters.
To help make that happen, Bridge Alliance members RepresentUs and Unite America have teamed up with strategic partner NANR to present the first ever Accelerator Awards. The Accelerator Awards will offer recognition, funding, and strategic support to “reform campaigns that increase participation, competition, and accountability in our political system.”
The focus of the Awards will be campaigns for key structural reforms, such as:
- Ranked Choice Voting
- Redistricting Reform
- Open / Nonpartisan Primaries
- Vote by Mail
Applications are due by November 1st, and the award ceremony will take place at the second annual NANR Summit on December 5th and 6th in Denver, CO.
In other electoral news:
- According to a report from Bridge Alliance strategic partner Tisch College of Civic Life, college student voting doubled for the 2018 midterms as compared to 2014 midterms. Black women were the most active and Hispanic students had the largest increase in participation.
- A coalition of organizations -- including Bridge Alliance members Civic Spirit, Generation Citizen, and IssueVoter -- are trying to keep that trend going with High School Registration Week, which started on Monday and continues through Friday.
- Finally, in more light-hearted news, you and your friends can now use Approval Voting to make decisions with a new app called Sujjest. For those of you who don’t know what Approval Voting is, Sujjest is a fun and helpful way to learn the concept.
As always, thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Garson, Bridge Alliance Education Fund
