Below are the highlights and featured resources of last week’s Daily* Resources, as well as the Friday before.
8/27/2020 - “The Woman’s Hour” -- Celebrating Women’s Right to Vote
It has been 100 years and 1 day since the 19th Amendment -- the right to vote for women -- was certified for inclusion in the U.S. Constitution. That amendment states that, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” This was the largest extension of voting rights in American history, as it extended voting rights to 27,000,000 women.
American Promise is celebrating this momentous milestone with Elaine Weiss, who wrote “The Woman’s Hour.” On September 15th at 8 PM ET, you can join American Promise and Elaine Weiss for a discussion on the decades-long suffragist movement that led to the 19th Amendment and women gaining the right to vote.
8/21/2020 - When RepresentUs Goes, They Go BIG! VoteSafe Event Features Ed Helms, Sia, Kenny G., Nick Kroll, George Lopez, Sarah Silverman….
Three months ago we told you about a new initiative by Bridge Alliance members and a few others called VoteSafe. This bipartisan effort, led by Former Governors Tom Ridge (PA-R) and Jennifer Granholm (MI-D), is focused on ensuring that voters nationwide can exercise their constitutional right to vote, and do so safely and securely -- whether by mail or in person.
To supercharge the initiative, RepresentUs is hosting an absolutely star-studded virtual gala called “United to Save the Vote” to raise $2 million. The gala, which will take place on August 30th @ 8 PM ET, is free to attend, and will feature the stars mentioned in the subject line, along with Jennifer Lawrence, Dave Matthews, Jake Johnson, and more. Ed Helms will host. You can RSVP through this page.
We also wanted to highlight ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge’s voting toolkit for students. While specifically designed for college students, this is an excellent resource for anybody trying to exercise their right to vote this November.
