Below are the highlights and featured resources of this past week’s Daily* Resource.
December 13, 2022 - National Day of Dialogue (Jan 5); Awkward, Important Conversations
What is your immediate, visceral reaction when I say “Kyrsten Sinema”? How about “trickle-down economics”? I don’t know about you, but these are such sensitive topics that I wouldn’t feel comfortable being fully candid about either topic with a stranger.
And that’s why it’s so important to push ourselves. It’s also why we’re thrilled to be partnering with Ideos Institute on the 2023 National Day of Dialogue, which will be held on January 5th, 2023.
Ideos and the NDOD community know that having healthy political conversations does not mean agreeing on everything. Instead, it’s about respecting our shared humanity over our political opinions.
Here’s how you can participate in this year’s Day of Dialogue:
- Sign up through the NDOD website and learn about what is happening on January 5th. Encourage your community to register too.
- Once you have registered, download the Whova app. This is the event management platform where you can read about speakers, create a customized agenda for Jan. 5th, and interact with other attendees and organizations on our community board and exhibitor booths.
- Bookmark Citizen Connect to find more opportunities for conversation after January 5th.
Also, circling back to the uncomfortable topics mentioned above….did you know that Sinema is poised to become the first female independent U.S. Senator? It may not change your opinion about the Senator from Arizona, but almost every political topic has those wrinkles that can cause you to go, “huh.” Conversations are a great way of discovering those wrinkles.
