As you know, it is getting harder and harder to achieve significant bipartisan support on any issue these days. That’s why we were delighted to learn that Issue One, among others, successfully shepherded the creation of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, which was adopted by a vote of 418-12 on January 4th. The Committee will be tasked with promoting a more modern and efficient Congress, which will presumably include addressing shortcomings identified by the Congressional Management Foundation in its report from 2016.
In other news, the deadline for the #EngagedCities Award is fast approaching! Applications for the award, which celebrates city/citizen problem solving, must be submitted to Cities of Service by January 18th. Winners will receive a minimum of $50,000, as well as communication resources to amplify your city’s success.
Finally, the NCDD is hosting a free call with West Virginia State Senator John Unger tomorrow (Wednesday 1/16) at 1 PM EST. Be sure to join in as Senator Unger explains how public engagement is key to his work as a legislator, and how his relationship with his constituents helped him win re-election against a well-funded opponent.
As always, thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Bridge Alliance Education Fund
